‘Rick and Morty’ Season 3 Proposition Betting Odds

–The third season of Adult Swim’s animated hit ‘Rick and Morty’ begins (?) on Sunday, July 30.

–’Rick and Morty’ is not only hugely popular but has received massive critical praise.

–The first episode of Season 3 aired unannounced on April Fools Day

‘Rick and Morty’ is a tough show to explain to non-believers. Wikipedia offers this quick synopsis of the series in their list of episodes:

“The series follows Rick, an alcoholic scientist, and his easily distressed, chronic underachieving grandson, Morty, on their adventures to alternate dimensions. These adventures commonly cause trouble for Morty’s family, who are often caught up in the mayhem.”

The main ‘Rick and Morty’ Wikipedia entry elaborates a bit:

Rick Sanchez is an alcoholic scientific genius who has moved in with the family of his daughter Beth, who is a veterinarian and equine cardiac surgeon. He splits his time between developing arcane projects and taking his teenage grandson Morty (and, with increasing occurrence, his older teenage granddaughter Summer) on dangerous and surreal adventures throughout the multiverse. Compounded with preexisting tensions within the family, these events cause the sensitive Morty much distress at home and school.

If the series sounds like a parody of ‘Back to the Future’ there’s a reason for that–the show evolved from a short film made by series creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon that was (surprise, surprise) a parody of ‘Back to the Future’. That’s where it started but the show evolved far beyond a mere ‘Back to the Future’ send up a long time ago. It morphed into a hugely popular show (averaging over 2 million viewers per episode and at least that many more through streaming and other digital venues) and a show that has received a ton of critical acclaim. The Den of Geek website called it “almost unquestionably TV’s best animated comedy”. It’s also uproariously hilarious, often complex and densely layered as well as highly addictive.

UNDERSTANDING THE APPEAL OF ‘RICK AND MORTY’

Full disclosure–‘Rick and Morty’ is my favorite TV show and actually the only series that I watch regularly. I’m one of those people that watches very little television. It’s not because I’m a snob or think I’m above it all–I just don’t have time and don’t have the attention span to ‘commit’ to a TV show. The last TV series that I took the time to watch first run was ‘The Sopranos’. I’ve ‘binge watched’ a few since then (‘Arrested Development’ was likely the best of these) and tried to get interested in dozens more. I have people recommend shows all the time but typically lose interest a few episodes in.

‘Rick and Morty’ is different. I catch every first run episode and have re-watched the entire series six times (once with director’s commentary). It’s a show that lends itself to repeated viewing since you’re always catching new jokes and noticing something that you missed before. I’m not going to try and sell you on the show–it’s like heavy metal music in that some people ‘get it’ and some people don’t. It took me just over an episode to get hooked and my experience is similar to others I’ve talked to in that it just took one joke to make me realize that it isn’t a typical animated series.

In any case, here’s an assortment of proposition bets for Season 3 with some specific to the second episode. The first episode of Season 3 was aired without prior announced on April Fools Day 2017 but Sunday, July 30 is the ‘official’ start to the season.
