EARLY ODDS FOR THIRD PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

MORE PROP BET ODDS ON THIRD PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

This installment covers the remaining ‘will either candidate say’ prop bets. We’ve had some in the previous two installments as well as some specific ‘will they say it’ prop bets for Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and even debate moderator Chris Wallace. This list of ‘will either candidate say’ prop bets has several recurring themes:

Political cliches and platitudes: These include the various “x Lives Matter” statements, names of political and media cronies or enemies, and classic political cliche lines like ‘Our People Are Tough’. We’ve had more of these in the previous two installments.

Issue related words and concepts: More of these in the previous two installments but I wanted include terms that hit on as many of the major storylines that could be brought up in the debate as possible. Benghazi, Global Warming, drug policy, etc.

Geography related terms: City, state and country names both foreign and domestic. Some like ‘New York’ or ‘Washington’ are a lot more likely to appear than others like ‘Colorado’ or ‘Atlantic City’.

Nevada related terms: More local references including Nevada cities such as ‘Reno’ and ‘Laughlin’ and the state motto ‘Battle Born’.

Gambling related terms: These could be interesting since many gambling related terms have been co-opted into the wider vocabulary. For example, ‘parlay’ has many other contexts in addition to betting on multiple sporting events. Other gambling terms like ‘snake eyes’ not so much. In addition, the word ‘gamble’ is used frequently as a metaphor for all sorts of risk. The Wall Street investment industry has been frequently compared to a ‘casino’.

Technology related terms: Perhaps the most absurd thing about this Presidential election is the fact that we’ve got two technological illiterates trying to hoodwink the masses into thinking that they can ‘grow the economy’ and ‘create jobs’. Come to think of it, the entire concept of a President ‘creating jobs’ or having more than a tangential impact on the world economy is equally as absurd. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are both analog players in a digital world that they really don’t understand but might have to talk about. Hope their advisors prepared them well! This subject area includes technical terms like ‘Bitcoin’ and ‘encryption’ as well as tech companies like ‘Google’ and ‘Apple’.

After the debate we’ll have another set of ‘Post Debate Campaign Odds’ where we’ll update the odds to win the Presidency and include some new props related to polling, campaign news, etc.
