NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Second Round Futures and Proposition Odds

–The Stanley Cup playoffs get underway on Wednesday, April 12.

–The Stanley Cup playoffs bring the intensity from the opening round due to the highly competitive nature of the NHL.

–The Washington Capitals are the favorite to win the Stanley Cup.

The first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs is in the books and the second round–technically the ‘Conference Semifinals’–will begin on Wednesday. The competitive landscape has changed dramatically in the matter of a week or so.

The biggest surprises were out West and there were none bigger than the Nashville Predators. The Predators beating the Chicago Blackhawks is a decent upset in itself. The fact that the Predators *swept* the top seeded team in the Western Conference is a big deal. The Blackhawks looked flat and the Predators played like a team possessed. Much of the credit goes to Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne. After an erratic regular season there was nothing ‘erratic’ about his first round performance as he held the Blackhawks to just 3 goals making 123 saves on 126 shots. The Blackhawks were a top ten goals per game team during the regular season and they finished with 109 points. They looked slow and overmatched as Nashville pulled off back to back shutouts on the Hawks’ home ice and then wrapped it up on their tough home ice at Bridgestone Arena.

Nashville will face the St. Louis Blues who pulled off an upset of their own as they eliminated the second ranked team in the West, the Minnesota Wild. The Wild looked ripe for a playoff tank job after a poor run to end the season. The Edmonton Oilers have not only made the playoffs for the first time in the Connor McDavid era they’ve now won a playoff series as they eliminated San Jose.

In the Eastern Conference, there weren’t quite as many surprises. The New York Rangers ousted the Atlantic Division champion Montreal Canadiens which was an upset ‘on paper’ but not in reality. The Rangers finished with 102 points, just 1 fewer than the Habs. The Washington Capitals advanced by eliminating Auston Matthews and the plucky Toronto Maple Leafs in six games. The Pittsburgh Penguins eliminated the Columbus Blue Jackets which was expected though the Jackets were expected to turn in more of a fight.

So with the second round set to begin here are the revised SPORTS BETTING EXPERTS futures and proposition odds for the Stanley Cup playoffs. There’s also some proposition betting odds for the 2017 NHL Draft as the league will conduct their annual draft lottery on (most likely) April 29:
