2018 Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards Betting Odds

–The Academy Award ‘Precursors’ are second tier awards from critics groups and professional guilds

–Hollywood observers follow ‘Precursor’ results trying to predict the Academy Award winners

–The Visual Effects Society (VES) will hold their 2018 awards ceremony on February 13, 2018 in Los Angeles

Now that the Super Bowl is over it will be ‘precursor’ awards coming fast and furious all the way up until the Academy Awards on Sunday, March 8. The technical awards are always worth looking at for Oscar handicapping purposes. The technical specialists vote on the nominations in their relevant categories so you can expect a number of the films honored tonight to show up in Oscar nominations. In this post we’ll look at the odds for the 16th Annual Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards set for February 13, 2018 at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

The VES represents, surprisingly enough, visual effects professionals. Within that group, however, there is a very diverse and eclectic list of job titles as their official ‘About’ blurb details:

The Visual Effects Society (VES) is a global professional honorary society and the entertainment industry’s only organization representing the full breadth of visual effects practitioners including artists, technologists, model makers, educators, studio executives, supervisors, PR/marketing specialists and producers. VES’ over 3,800 members in more than 35 countries worldwide contribute to all areas of entertainment – film, television, commercials, animation, special venue, games and new media. Headquartered in Los Angeles, the VES has member Sections in Australia, Bay Area (CA), Germany, India, London, Los Angeles, Montreal, New York, New Zealand, Toronto, Vancouver and Washington State.

The VES Awards recognize a long list of categories covering the gamut of the entertainment profession. Although these include awards for commercials, ‘real-time projects’ and student awards I’m going to focus on the five major categories. No disrespect to the nominees vying for the ‘Outstanding Visual Effects in a Student Project Award’ but I have no clue how I’d set a price.

Here are the 2018 Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards betting odds:
