2018 Critics’ Choice Television Awards Betting Odds

–The 2018 Critics’ Choice Television Awards will take place on Thursday, January 11, 2018

–2018 will be the 23rd Critics’ Choice Television Awards

–The award winners are selected by members of the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA)

No respite from awards shows after the holidays. With the 90th Oscars slated for March 4, 2018 the various ‘precursor’ awards will be tripping all over themselves to get noticed and claim that they’re the best prognosticator of the nominations. The Golden Globes get things started on Sunday, January 7. Historically, the Golden Globes are good for an evening of fun and frivolity but that won’t be happening in the ‘post Harvey Weinstein’ Hollywood. All of the ‘A-list’ actresses including Meryl Streep plan to ‘protest’ by wearing black dresses.

Rose McGowan–one of Weinstein’s victims–was none to happy about their tepid form of ‘protest’ and let the black dress brigade have it. Streep let McGowan know that even with Weinstein thrown to the wolves the Hollywood power structure remains intact after which she backed down and apologized to the reigning queen of female thespians. That hasn’t stopped posters with Streep’s picture and the caption ‘She Knew’ from popping up all over Hollywood.

It’ll be interesting to watch how Hollywood ‘circles the wagons’ and deals with the Weinstein situation but not exactly “the award season’s booziest night of stars and acceptance speeches” as USA TODAY dubbed the Golden Globes last year. Several days after the Golden Globes are the 23rd Annual Critics choice award which inexplicably has a Thursday night time slot on January 11. This is curious since there doesn’t appear to be anything scheduled for the weekend of the 13th and 14th. In fact, there doesn’t look to be anything on the docket until the Screen Actors’ Guild Awards on Sunday, January 21. The NAACP Awards are on Monday, January 15 and maybe there’s some unwritten code of political correctness that requires the Critics’ Choice Awards to take place on Thursday?

SO WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH THE CRITICS’ CHOICE AWARDS?

The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) will jointly present 23rd Annual Critics’ Choice Awards. As the combined groups suggest, they cover both film and television in this ceremony and we’ll have separate odds rundowns for each. We hit the movie award odds a couple of days back and the TV awards are in this post. In their press release announcing the nominees for the awards the BFCA claims that “The Critics’ Choice Awards” are “historically, the “Critics’ Choice Awards” are the most accurate predictor of the Academy Award nominations”. I have no idea if that is true or not.

The Critics’ Choice Awards are held annually by the BFCA and BTJA to honor ‘the finest in cinematic and television achievement’. The BFCA is the largest film critics’ organization in the United States and Canada, representing more than 300 television, radio and online critics. BFCA members are the primary source of information for today’s film-going public. BTJA is the collective voice of journalists who regularly cover television for TV viewers, radio listeners and online audiences. Keep this membership in mind going forward–critics groups usually don’t have the same sort of insider politics at play in their balloting process that the Academy does in voting for the Oscars.

So here’s my 2018 Critics’ Choice Television Awards betting odds. I’ll very likely be adding some prop bets for the Critics’ Choice Awards in the next few days:
