2018 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards Betting Odds

–The 2018 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards will take place on Thursday, January 11, 2018

–2018 will be the 23rd Critics’ Choice Movie Awards

–The award winners are selected by members of The Broadcast Film Critics Association(BFCA)

The Academy Awards remain the ‘Super Bowl’ for the entertainment industry and that’ll be apparent in the run up to the 90th Oscars on March 4, 2018. In the meantime, there’s plenty of ‘precursor’ awards beginning with the Golden Globes on Sunday, January 7. After that it’ll be awards just about every week as any number of professional guilds and critics associations give out their honors. Just three days after the Golden Globes we’ve got another awards event as the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) present 23rd Annual Critics’ Choice Awards. As the combined groups suggest, they cover both film and television in this ceremony and we’ll have separate odds rundowns for each. We’ll start with the movie awards.

In their press release announcing the nominees for the awards the BFCA claims that “The Critics’ Choice Awards” are “historically, the “Critics’ Choice Awards” are the most accurate predictor of the Academy Award nominations”. I have no idea if that is true or not. The Academy Award nominations will be released on January 23 so we’ll see if the predictive ability of the Critics’ Choice Awards holds true this year.

The Critics’ Choice Awards are held annually by the BFCA and BTJA to honor ‘the finest in cinematic and television achievement’. The BFCA is the largest film critics’ organization in the United States and Canada, representing more than 300 television, radio and online critics. BFCA members are the primary source of information for today’s film-going public. BTJA is the collective voice of journalists who regularly cover television for TV viewers, radio listeners and online audiences. Keep this membership in mind going forward–critics groups usually don’t have the same sort of insider politics at play in their balloting process that the Academy does in voting for the Oscars.

So here’s my 2018 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards betting odds. Stay tuned for the odds on the TV Awards coming within 24 hours:
