‘Big Brother’ Season 19 Week 7 Betting Odds

–CBS has renewed the long running ‘Big Brother’ reality show for a 19th and 20th season.

–’Big Brother’ is a spin-off of a Dutch TV series of the same name.

–’Big Brother’ airs Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday on CBS TV.

The hardcore fans of ‘Big Brother’ insist that Week 6 was one of the most entertaining and compelling weeks of the season. There was emotional intensity, betrayal, infighting–the EW recap of Episode 18 suggested that “if you relished the intensity of this week, next week ought to be one hell of a ride.” I’ll take their word for it but from an oddsmaking standpoint it was ‘much ado about nothing‘ assuming that it’s appropriate to use the title of Shakespearean comedy to summarize what happened on a modern day reality show. Jessica Graf used the ‘Halting Hex’ on live eviction night which resulted in no one leaving the house. I’ll let you decide if the ‘intensity’ is at the level the ‘Big Brother’ cognoscenti suggests but at least one widely read TV website wrote an article suggesting that the game had become ‘too harsh’.

Despite the fact that no one got the boot last week I still had to go back and re-price everything from Week 6. Most of the changes are in the odds to finish tenth, eleventh and twelfth with a few adjustments here and there in the middle of the pack. I made very few changes to the ‘odds to win’ and the top several finishing positions. I’m also going to start doing a show specific rundown of prop bets for the weekly live elimination show–things appear to be heating up so the Thursday show will (hopefully) lend itself nicely to betting odds. I’ll do the ‘live show’ odds in a separate post. The odds that I’ve been listing in the ‘Weekly’ posts will stay the same–only show specific props will be in the new post.

THE NUMBERS GAME

This is starting to sound like a broken record but’ Big Brother’ continues to do very well in the ratings–last week was their best week of the season in terms of ratings with a 1.9 rating and eight share for each of the three shows. Oddly enough, the show *didn’t* win the Thursday ratings battle for the first time this season. That honorific went to the first NFL Football preseason game of the year which did a 2.2 rating and 11 share with 7.66 million viewers. ‘Big Brother’ did bring in 19.35 million viewers for the three show weekly ‘set’ and that’s also a season best. Most impressive has been the show’s ability to not only maintain its audience but actually bring in new viewers. That’s not a given in the broadcast TV landscape circa 2017 and there’s plenty of examples of the high rating of the year coming in the first few shows with the rest of the season attracting increasingly lower ratings and viewerships. Another interesting quirk from this season–you’d think that the Thursday live elimination show would have the biggest audience but in every week this year with the exception of the premiere episode the Wednesday show has drawn the highest viewership.

Potentially interesting ratings week on tap. Sunday looks like an easy win for ‘Big Brother’ with the other networks all but ceding the timeslot and night. The only show worth mentioning is a rerun of the LA Finals of ‘American Ninja Warrior’ and they’ll be lucky to draw a third of the audience that ‘Big Brother’ does. The live Monday shows have been doing well–last week’s Monday show did a 1.4 rating with a 6 share based on an audience of 5.88 million. The Wednesday show will be the interesting matchup up against a new episode of ‘America’s Got Talent’ and a new episode of ‘MasterChef’. The new AGT is a recap show of what’s happened so far this season so it’ll likely pull another good but not great number like the 0.9 rating with 4.8 million viewers it did last Wednesday. MasterChef might not be neck and neck with ‘Big Brother’ on Wednesday but the show did a 1.1 rating with a 3.75 share last week. Combined, they could impact the ‘Big Brother’ numbers–particularly up against a lackluster episode. The live ‘Big Brother’ on Thursday shouldn’t have much trouble against a lackluster lineup of competing programming with no NFL football on the slate.

Here’s the Week 7 proposition bets and the revised ‘to win’ odds. Stay tuned for the Week 7 ‘live show’ odds rundown:
