Updated WWE Greatest Royal Rumble Pro Wrestling Betting Odds

–The first WWE ‘Royal Rumble’ PPV was in 1988

–The ‘Greatest Royal Rumble’ will have an all time high of 50 entrants

–The ‘Greatest Royal Rumble’ takes place on April 27, 2018, at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Just a few weeks after “Wrestlemania 34” the WWE will present another huge show on April 27, this one called the ‘Greatest Royal Rumble’. The entire backstory of the show as well as the booking is somewhat curious to the point that it’s hard to figure out what is going on. The show will take place at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The Saudi media is calling it the country’s ‘most brash and brutal sporting event of 2018.’ It’ll be available live on the WWE Network or PPV depending on the country. Due to the time difference the card will start at 12:00 Noon Eastern with a preshow beginning at 11:00 AM.

There has been some criticism of the WWE for promoting a show in Saudi Arabia and particularly one on which women aren’t allowed to compete. Paul Levesque aka ‘Triple H’ gave a cogent defense of the WWE’s Saudi initiative which includes a 10 year deal with the Saudi General Sports Authority for co-promotion of pro wrestling events:

“I understand that people are questioning it, but you have to understand that every culture is different and just because you don’t agree with a certain aspect of it, it doesn’t mean it’s not a relevant culture. You can’t dictate to a country or a religion about how they handle things but, having said that, WWE is at the forefront of a women’s evolution in the world and what you can’t do is affect change anywhere by staying away from it.”

“While, right now, women are not competing in the event, we have had discussions about that and we believe and hope that, in the next few years they will be. That is a significant cultural shift in Saudi Arabia.”

“The country is in the middle of a shift in how it is dealing with that — the position is changing, and rights are changing, as are the way women are handled and treated in society. We think that’s a great thing and we’re excited to be at the forefront of that change.”

There is some truth to that, though otherwise it sounds like it was read from a Saudi General Sports Authority. As we noted in our previous odds report, there’s so much money involved that the WWE is going to take the heat. They’ve been less forthcoming in responding to criticisms that the ‘Greatest Royal Rumble’ show has significantly valued this year’s ‘Wrestlemania’. There has been speculation that a number of loose ends weren’t tied up at ‘Wrestlemania’–nominally the WWE’s biggest show of the year–and instead will be resolved at the ‘Greatest Royal Rumble’.

Here are the updated odds on the WWE ‘Greatest Royal Rumble’ event:
