‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Season 14 Finale Betting Odds

–This is the 14th season for Fox TVs ‘So You Think You Can Dance’.

–The finale of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ will air live on Monday, September 25 at 8 PM Eastern.

–Vanessa Hudgens will join Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy as judges.

Lowest common denominator Middle America is nothing if not highly predictable. Just as we anticipated, the bottom three in the dual elimination Episode 13 vote was Koine Iwasaki, Kaylee Millis and along for the ride Logan Hernandez (I’m sure his Hispanic surname didn’t help matters). When the smoke cleared, Kaylee Millis and Logan Hernandez were eliminated. In some ways, that’s a surprise but only if one is confident in the veracity of reality show vote tabulation. I’m not at all–there’s no transparency and it’s a complete ‘work’ for all that we know. My hunch is that Koine Iwasaki was one of the two lowest vote getters but Hernandez was sacrificed instead. This has a dual benefit–it makes the voting look less blatantly the work of the ugly underclass of ‘flyover country’ and gets us back to a bit of gender equity with two men and two women in the Final Four.

Objectively speaking, the two best dancers left in the field should end up in the Finals and that would be Lex Ishimodo and Taylor Sieve. Ishimodo and Sieve are the only two dancers without a ‘bottom three’ appearance this season–that’s a pretty flimsy metric for assessing their skills qualitatively but for the purposes of this competition it’ll work. Ishimodo remains my favorite to win the entire thing with Sieve the second choice. My thinking is that Koine Iwasaki will get sent home this week with Kiki Nyemcheki the likely third place finisher. I’m not really clear on how the eliminations will work from this point forward. There’s a ‘Final Four’ show set for this week with the ‘Finale’ set for next Monday. The program description for this week suggests that all four will make it to the Finals with no eliminations this week. That’s how it was done last year so this makes some sense. In any case, due to this uncertainty I’ve removed the ‘No One Eliminated’ and ‘No Bottom Three But Safe’ options from their respective betting markets. If there’s no elimination this week it’ll be a ‘push’. I’ve also added betting markets for the second, third and fourth place finisher overall.

Episode 13 ratings were still pending at press time. With the show up against the first ‘Monday Night Football’ of the regular season as well as Hurricane Irma coverage they could be all over the map. The ratings for ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ have been very consistent this season, though likely somewhat lower than the producers would have hoped. They got some good news last week with an uptick in the ratings, share and viewership for Episode 11. The show turned in a 0.8 rating with a 3 share attracting 2.95 million viewers. That’s the largest viewership since Week Three when the audition show brought in 3.10 million viewers. ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ has yet to be renewed for next season so a strong showing in the stretch run could help their cause significantly. Ratings for Episode 12 were lower with a 0.6 rating, 3 share and 2.57 million viewers. Note that these numbers could (and most likely will) be revised in the next day or two.
