‘Project Runway’ Season 16 Episode 4 Betting Odds

–’Project Runway’ will feature a wide array of models this year ranging in size from 0 to 22.

–’Project Runway’ has already been renewed for two more seasons after this one.

–Episode 4 of ‘Project Runway’ Season 16 will air on September 7, 2017 at 8:00 PM Eastern on the Lifetime Network

It’s evident that I’ll have to make personality a more salient component of the ‘Project Runway’ odds going forward. More specifically, the ability of a designer’s personality (or lack thereof) to make for ‘good television’. The Week 3 elimination was something of a surprise as everyone (except for me) thought that the unctuous Shawn Buitendorp was a goner. She was our middle of the pack choice for the simple reason that her presence makes for good television. For the second straight week a fairly low key designer got the heave-ho as Kudzanai Karidza was eliminated. Karidza was a +1500 choice to win the competition on our ‘Project Runway’ odds and a +2500 choice to be eliminated. He looked like the type of designer that would ‘fly under the radar’ until mid-season but his problem was likely his personality. He didn’t blow people away with his talent or his ‘persona’, nor did he offend. And being low key just doesn’t make for good television.

At some point the less talented but more entertaining designers will begin to fall by the wayside but it won’t be for several more weeks. For that reason, I’m not looking for Shawn Buitendorp to get sent home this week. Clearly, the ‘twin angle’ was something that producers factored in to the mix and Shawn’s abrasive personality gives them another storyline to advance. In my view, the most likely elimination will be Aaron Myers who despite his persona–a cross between ‘Neil’ from ‘The Young Ones’ and ‘Riff Raff’ from the ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’–isn’t very interesting nor is he a particularly talented designer. Both of the Buitendorp twins could last for awhile still as there are a half dozen or so designers that just don’t have the sort of strong personality that galvanizes viewers.
