MLB Baseball Betting for August 22, 2016

Just nine games on the Monday baseball card:

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL BETTING FOR AUGUST 22, 2016:

ATLANTA BRAVES AT PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES:

The worst team in baseball against the second worst home team in baseball. The Atlanta Braves are going nowhere and are now realistically out of the running to catch the fourth place Philadelphia Phillies. Philadelphia has played reasonably well in the second half and now have a 12.5 game edge on Atlanta. The Braves have lost 8 of 10 and are very likely to finish in last place in the entire Major Leagues.

Not that Arizona is anything special and they’re particularly bad at home. The Diamondbacks have a pitiful record of 21-40 -25.4 units on their home field. On paper, this looks like an opportunity for the Diamondbacks to get a rare win but the Braves have actually turned a decent profit on the road at 26-36 +10 units. Arizona enters this game having lost 7 of 10 but are still just two games back of NL West fourth place team San Diego.

Atlanta will start Mike Foltynewicz who hasn’t looked too bad in his most recent assignments. Overall he’s got a 4.35 ERA with a 1.314 WHIP, a 4.86 ERA with a 1.480 WHIP on the road and a 3.78 ERA with a 1.380 WHIP in his last three starts. Atlanta is 7-9 in his starts overall this season, 5-4 on the road and 2-1 in his last three. Combined with the huge prices Atlanta typically commands against them this capable showing has made Foltynewicz a profitable pitcher including +4.8 units on the road.\

Arizona will start Zack Godley who is expected to be a solid MLB starter but hasn’t shown much as of yet. He’s got a 5.05 ERA overall with a 1.439 WHIP, a 4.60 home ERA with a 1.398 WHIP and a 4.19 L3 ERA with a 1.138 WHIP. The Diamondbacks have gone 4-3 in his 7 starts including 3-2 at home with a 1-2 record in his last 3. Godley is coming off his best start of the year going 7 1/3 innings against the NY Mets allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs. This would be more impressive were it not against the weak hitting Mets. Relatively speaking, the Braves aren’t bad against right handers with a loss of -3.1 units.

Going to take the team in the profitable situation against the team in a huge money losing situation. That puts us on Atlanta.

COLORADO ROCKIES AT MILWAUKEE BREWERS:

A couple of teams that are also going nowhere play as the Colorado Rockies and Milwaukee Brewers face off at Miller Park. The Rockies came out of the All Star Break as one of the hottest teams in baseball but now they’re treading water 9 games back of the first place Dodgers and 8 games back of the second place San Francisco Giants. Then again, if the Rockies could get back on the winning track they could quickly get back into the NL West mix. Heading into Monday night action none of the teams in the division have a winning record for the last ten games. In fact, the Rockies’ 5-5 record is tied with the Dodgers 5-5 mark as the best in that stretch.

Neither starter in great form at the moment. Colorado’s Chad Bettis has a 6.43 ERA and a 1.929 WHIP in his last three starts but Colorado has won them all. Jimmy Nelson has been getting pounded–in his last three starts he’s gone 14 1/3 innings allowing 15 ER, 8 walks, 19 hits and 4 home runs. The Rockies’ Bettis catches a break here as Milwaukee averages only 3.6 runs per game against right handers and they ‘boast’ a record of 29-54 -23 units against them. Colorado averages nearly 2 runs per game more against RHP and are 45-43 +5.2 units. They’ve also made money (+5.5 units) on the road. Form is the key here–Colorado has won 3 of 4 including taking 2 of 3 from the Cubs over the weekend. Milwaukee has lost 8 of 10 and were 1 run from being swept in back to back series.
