‘Top Chef Colorado’– Episode 8 Betting Odds

The big story on ‘Top Chef Colorado’ this past week happened off camera. Fatima Ali–who has been the favorite to win Season 15 since it began–underwent surgery for a rare form of cancer. The show was filmed last spring and after it wrapped Ali was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma–a form of bone cancer. She had surgery on January 16 to remove a tumor in her left shoulder. She made this post on her Instagram account:
“Going in for surgery today to get that tumor out of my left shoulder. Feeling content knowing I have so many well wishers and prayers from all around the world.”
‘Top Chef’ host Padma Lakshmi visited her in the hospital prior to her surgery and gave this account:
“I’d love it if everyone joins me today in saying a special prayer for our @cheffati who went into surgery a couple hours ago. She was in good spirits when we walked her into OR, and am hoping for a great outcome today.”
So far no word on how the surgery went or her future prognosis but you’ve gotta feel for Chef Ali. She’s just 28 years old so she’s got youth on her side.
On the show itself, Joe Sasso bounced back from his ‘low’ performance in Week 6 with a win in the Elimination Challenge. Sasso now becomes the only contestant with multiple Elimination Challenge wins this year. At the other end of the spectrum, Tanya Holland was eliminated one week after winning the Episode 6 challenge. Her elimination also demonstrated the limitation of power ratings in this type of competition. Heading into Episode 7, Holland was tied with the aforementioned Ali was a +3 rating. Now she’s watching the rest of the competition at home. With his win, Sasso moves to the top of the power rating table with a +3 putting him in a tie with Ali.
