‘Top Chef Colorado’– Episode 5 Betting Odds

–’Top Chef Colorado’ is the title of the 15th season of the ‘Top Chef’ franchise.

–The finale of ‘Top Chef Colorado’ was filmed in Aspen during the Food and Wine Classic.

–Episode 5 of ‘Top Chef Colorado’ will air on January 4, 2018 at 10:00 PM Eastern on Bravo

While ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ takes the Holiday Season off the new episodes of ‘Top Chef Colorado’ continue fast and furious. On Episode 4 we had something of a surprise elimination as Tyler Anderson got the hook. To be sure, he deserved it for a very ill advised ‘Swedish fusion menagerie’ but it was a surprise as he’d performed well to this point. In fact, he was among the top candidates to win the whole thing and he was #2 in our ‘power ratings’. From the standpoint of oddsmaking and handicapping, it’s always hard to deal with a show that has no problem giving a contestant the boot for one substandard performance. ‘Project Runway’ has a tendency to cut a contestant some slack for one bad week or two but that’s not the case either here or on the aforementioned ‘Hell’s Kitchen’. The idea might be to show how cutthroat and competitive the culinary business can be but I’ve never heard of a restaurant that would can an otherwise talented chef for one ‘bad night at the office’. I know I wouldn’t want to eat in a place like that.

That leaves us with these updated ‘Top Chef’ power ratings. I’ve adapted the same format that I used for ‘Project Runway’ this season giving points for ‘High’ finishes in the elimination challenge and subtracting points for ‘Low’ finishes. It worked reasonably well for ‘Project Runway’ until the finale and was particularly effective in revealing ‘false favorites’. It might not be quite as accurate for ‘Top Chef’ due to the absence of a weekly challenge ‘runner up’ for both the winner and the elimination ‘victim’. I debated giving more emphasis to superlative and substandard performances (3 for a win, 2 for ‘High’ and -2 for ‘Low) but we’ll roll with this scoring criteria for now:

WIN = +2
HIGH = +1
IN = 0
LOW = -1
