‘Survivor: Heroes v. Healers v. Hustlers’ Season 35 Episode 13 Betting Odds

–This is the 35th season for CBS’s reality show.

–’Survivor’ was one of the early pioneers of the reality TV genre.

–’Survivor: Heroes v. Healers v. Hustlers’ Episode 13 airs on Wednesday, December 13 at 8:00 PM Eastern.

Week 12 of ‘Survivor’ is in the books and it was the usual mayhem. Remember last week when I made this observation?

Lauren Rimmer spent most of the first half of Season 35 as one of the biggest longshots on our betting board. As recently as Week 6 she was a +3500 co-longshot to win and a +350 co-second favorite to be the ‘Next Eliminated’. She’s now a +125 favorite to win.

Here’s what happened–Lauren formed a ‘secret alliance’ that she didn’t keep secret. Ben Driebergen overheard the un-stealthy Rimmer plotting against him and he decided to ‘target’ Lauren who had a hidden immunity idol and an extra vote advantage working in her favor. Not that it mattered since she screwed up both of these things. Entertainment Weekly referred to the whole situation as ‘bonkers’. EW interviewed impresario Jeff Probst who gave this postmortem on Lauren:

I loved Lauren. She became an audience favorite about halfway into the game. I think a lot of people related to her struggle to be more “social” with the tribe. It’s not easy to just drop in and make friends. And she is so blunt and she is so beautifully authentic. I think Lauren would be a great returning player. She was on track to have a legit shot at winning. Second guessing mistakes is for people too afraid to make a move. I don’t think Lauren is second guessing too much. She had a game plan, she went for it, it didn’t work. Most don’t. But in order to be considered a true Survivor player, you have to have the guts to go for it in the first place.

Anyway, Rimmer was a +2500 longshot to be eliminated in Episode 12. Obviously hindsight is 20/20 but prior to this episode it was seemingly impossible for her to screw up all three of her primary advantages (hidden idol, extra vote, secret alliance). Given her situational advantage as the season is winding down she had every reason to be a favorite to win. I had her favored as I mentioned above but also had Ashley Nolan at +200 and Devon Pinto at +250. Pinto is the new favorite to win at +125 with Chrissy Hofbeck right behind at +150.

Ben Driebergen is this week’s favorite to be eliminated at +125. You have to think that the producers ‘want’ a male eliminated this week to get the gender disparity back to a reasonable level. With Lauren Rimmer’s ouster there are two women remaining against four men. It would seem to be advantageous from a promotional standpoint to have three men and two women after Week 13 as opposed to 4 men against one of the distaff.
