NFL Football Betting–Super Bowl Futures and NFL Conference Championship Props

–The New England Patriots are favored to win Super Bowl LI

– Without a dominant team in either conference the Super Bowl matchup and result is wide open

– The lower seeded playoff teams realistically don’t have a chance

The NFL Regular season is over and the playoffs will get underway on Saturday, January 7 culminating with Super bowl LI on Sunday, February 5 at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. Making this year’s playoffs all the more interesting is the fact that neither the defending Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos nor the ‘runner up’ Carolina Panthers are back in the playoffs this year. For that matter, only one of the four teams that competed in last year’s NFC and AFC Championship games are back in the playoffs this season–the New England Patriots are back for another shot at the title while last year’s NFC title game loser Arizona is watching this year’s playoffs at home. All told, six of this year’s playoff aspirants made the championship game last year. Only three teams in this year’s playoff field have never won the Super Bowl previously–the Houston Texans, Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons.

In the conference championships, the New England Patriots are expected to come out of the AFC with a challenge from the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers’ biggest issue this season was inconsistency so they can go either way in the postseason. If they play well, they could be Super Bowl bound. They’ll have to get past the New England Patriots who have very quietly been winning with defense this year–or at least as quietly as a team can go 14-2. The Patriots still have a potent offense that finished the regular season ranked #4 in yards per game (386.3) and #3 in points per game (27.6). On defense, however, they were #8 in yards per game allowed (326.4) and #1 in points per game against (15.6).

Over in the NFC, the trendy choices to come out of the conference are the Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers. The Falcons have the most potent scoring offense in football (33.8 PPG) though Green Bay is not far behind in 4th (27 PPG). Both could be vulnerable on defense where Green Bay has the #21 scoring defense (24.3 PPG) and Atlanta the #27 scoring defense (25.4 PPG). For whatever reason, there’s not much ‘wise guy’ interest in Dallas which is downright silly. All the Cowboys have done this year is win football games behind their rookie offensive tandem of Ezekiel Elliot and Dak Prescott. The Cowboys are also very sturdy on the defensive side of the ball with the #5 scoring defense in the NFL (19.1 PPG).
