Donald Trump is clearly going to face an ongoing maelstrom of chaos and controversy during his presidency. Part of that is due to his management style, part may be due to his inexperience in elected office (although being a member of the political ruling class isn’t ‘brain surgery’ like his opponents suggest) and much is due to the media and their supplicants on the left who are determined to make every minor appointment and insignificant decision a huge point of contention.

THE DEMOCRATS’ SELF DEFEATING RESPONSE TO THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY

That’s really the dumbest thing that Trump’s political opponents can do. At this point, they’re just ‘preaching to the choir’. They’ve got a lot of misplaced ‘butthurt’ that their candidate didn’t win the election and they’re responding not by pointing out the many liabilities of Hillary Clinton and regrouping for the future but instead trying a ill advised ‘scorched earth’ policy. They’re trying to depict Trump as the anti-Christ and grasping at every conspiracy theory straw they can find to rationalize away Mrs. Clinton’s upset loss in the 2016 election. Some of their conspiracy theory tirades will be downright comical a decade or so down the road, particularly their rage over ‘fake news’ and insistance that ‘Russian hackers’ were the reason that their extremely flawed and immensely unlikable candidate lost the election. The more they cluck about everything that Trump does without doing a little bit of introspection as to why they *really* lost the majority of the US electorate will continue to tune them out.

The downright brain dead reaction of the Democratic party to their Presidential loss and refusal to learn any lessons from it has given me reason to revise Trump’s chances of lasting the first term and being re-elected upward. There’s plenty of reasons to not like Trump but until the Democrats realize that there’s plenty of reasons that the electorate didn’t like Hillary Clinton and her campaign there’s not much to suggest that they’ll fare much better next time out. It’ll likely be a close election but since the Democrats appear determined to trot out another party hack it’s likely that they won’t get the ‘voter enthusiasm’ that Obama did during his electoral runs and that Hillary lost in 2016.

The left is completely failing to realize that they’re doing nothing to erode Trump’s support base. It may make them feel good to act like it’s Vietnam all over again and they’re protesting in the streets but there’s not much to suggest it’s having any positive impact on their electoral chances. Looking at the polling data the sum total of the left’s borderline pathological obsession with Trump has been a negligible hit to his job approval numbers. Take a look at the ‘Trump Job Approval’ polling average from RealClearPolitics and you’ll see just how ineffective the left’s vilification of Trump has been. When Trump was inaugurated he had a 44.3% approval rating. Currently, his job approval rating is at 43.8%. That’s a fractional difference and while it may be off of his high of 46% it’s well above his low water mark. His ‘disapproval’ rating has experienced a couple of ‘blips’ but has remained fairly consistent in the mid 49% range. As long as the left continues to ‘preach to the choir’ and does nothing to re-engage the roughly 50% of the American electorate that has tuned out of the process entirely (and with good reason) they’ll continue to spin their wheels.

On a related note, we’ll be posting revised prices to win the 2020 Presidential election as well as markets for the Republican and Democratic nomination. Stay tuned.
