‘Dancing with the Stars’ Season 25 Episode 9 Betting Odds

–This is the 25th season for ABC’s reality show.

–NFL running back Rashad Jennings was the Season 24 winner.

–’Dancing With The Stars’ Episode 9 will air on November 6, 2017.

Things are getting serious on Season 25 of ‘Dancing with the Stars’. Episode 8 saw two contestants eliminated as Nikki Bella and Vanessa Lachey were sent packing. I had figured that the Lachey distaff’s days were numbered following the elimination of her husband, Nick, last week but the ‘DWTS’ producers couldn’t get her out of the lineup quickly enough. Nikki Bella’s ouster was more of a surprise but despite having the ‘skill set’ that suggested she might go deep into the competition it never really looked like her heart was in it. She leaves with the sixth highest average score (22.8) but that’s really been her problem–she’s been decidedly ‘middle of the pack’ all season long. She was halfway decent when she started the season but has been ‘going sideways’ ever since. There could be ‘backstage’ reasons that the future Mrs. John Cena is leaving the show but given her lack of decisive improvement the elimination was inevitable.

The big news prior to the show, however, was a rib injury suffered by frontrunner Lindsey Stirling during rehearsals. The injury was reported to be bad enough that her participation in Monday’s show–and for that matter her continued viability as a Season 25 contestant–was seriously up in the air. Had she been unable to compete on Monday night she would have been disqualified under the ‘DWTS’ rules but there was concern that she’d throw in the towel on the entire season due to injury. For now, she continues to fight on following a gutsy effort. It was obvious that she was in pain during her dance but earned a 27 score to keep her in contention. She even made it through the team dance later in the program. Her display of toughness could eventually win her the Season 25 title if the decision comes down to ‘intangibles’.

The best way to go over what transpired is to run down the performances:

EPISODE EIGHT CONTESTANT REPORT CARD

VICTORIA ARLEN: Arlen’s waltz was solid earning a 27 score but some observers were disappointed with a relatively ‘by the numbers’ performance. Working in her favor–it was obvious that she and her partner had listened to the judges’ Episode 8 critiques and implemented their suggestions. As TV Guide noted:

The judges had nothing but wonderful feedback about Victoria’s arms and how natural she looked on the floor. The judges love it when they can say, “You took our notes! You fixed it!” so it’s no surprise that she got a score bump this week.

The big question now–can she keep getting better despite the fact that she can’t feel her legs? Her brutal backstory is great and all but at this stage of the competition it’s not enough to stave off elimination if the improvement isn’t there. Another problem–Arlen is reportedly having spasms and other issues related to her spinal cord injury.

NIKKI BELLA: As noted previously, Nikki started ‘middle of the pack’ and essentially stayed there the whole season which made her elimination inevitable. A good but not great dance on Monday earning a 24 was the final denouement for the future Mrs. Cena.

JORDAN FISHER: J-Fish was gifted an opportunity due to Lindsey Stirling’s injury and he took advantage of it turning in another perfect score. Assuming that her injury doesn’t do her in it’ll be Lindsey Stirling and J-Fish as the ‘Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat‘ of ‘DWTS Season 25’.

VANESSA LACHEY: Lachey turns in a 24 and with no more ‘husband and wife competing’ angle she’s expendable. The combination of the two sends her packing.

FRANKIE MUNIZ: Frankie pulled off another strong week and earned a perfect score. Same deal as last week–Frankie has been seriously inconsistent of late–a 24 three weeks ago, a 29 two weeks ago, a 23 (not including guest judge Shania Twain’s score) last week and a 30 this week. His lack of consistency will likely do him in at some point.

TERRELL OWENS: A bit of regression from T.O. this week and a substandard 24. The judges like him and he’s going to get the benefit of the doubt but he needs to start showing improvement.

DREW SCOTT: Drew caught a bit of break this week–he fell during his performance but the judges appeared to think it was on purpose. The old Pee Wee Herman ‘I meant to do that‘ situation. In any case, Drew pulls a decent 27 and lives to fight another day.

LINDSEY STIRLING:We talked a lot about Stirling above. A 27 given her injury is very strong. Definitely didn’t hurt her chances on Monday and assuming she can stay in training *and* rehab her rib she’s still my favorite to win. That being said, I’ve moved J-Fish into ‘co-favorite’ status since if she does have to withdraw it’ll become his competition to lose.
