2017 Television Critics Association Awards Betting Odds

–The Television Critics Association (TCA) is a group of journalists who cover the medium.

–The organization is comprised of 200 journalists from the US and Canada.

–Annual awards have been presented to honor television excellence since 1984.

During Academy Award season we follow a variety of ‘precursor’ awards shows as part of the handicapping and oddsmaking process. These ‘precursor’ awards may or may not be prestigious in their own right but they give us some idea of the mood and voting tendencies among industry types–some of which might be actual Oscar voters. The September 17 Emmy Awards also have their own ‘precursor’ awards and one of the most closely watched will take place on August 5, 2017.

The Television Critics Association (TCA) is an organization comprised of more than 200 professional TV critics and journalists from the US and Canada and on August 5 they’ll hold their 33rd Annual TCA Awards. The TCA Awards hit some of the same categories as the Emmy Awards with recognition going to actors, producers and programs in several genres including drama, comedy, youth programming, news and information and reality television. The ceremony itself is held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel with attendance by invitation only.

As was the case in the Emmy Award nominations, HBO led the way with 12 TCA Award Nominations followed closely by FX with 11 and Netflix with 10. Hulu picked up the network’s first every Emmy Nominations for ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ and the show also earned the network’s first ever TCA Award nomination. The social justice types that worry *way* too much about everyone’s gender, race and sexual orientation are thrilled at the fact that “there isn’t a single white cis-male actor nominated in either of the categories for individual achievement in a TV drama or comedy”. Whatever. The important thing is that there are some excellent programs on television right now with some extremely talented people involved on both sides of the camera. Three shows tied for ‘most nominations’ with ‘Atlanta’, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ and ‘This Is Us’ earning four nominations each.

Here are the odds to win in all of the nominated categories at the 33rd Annual 2017 Television Critics Association (TCA) Awards. The TCA will also give out the award for Career Achievement and Heritage Award at the show though no nominees were announced in advance.
