2017 NBA Playoffs Futures and Proposition Odds
–The 2017 NBA Playoffs begin on Saturday, April 15.
–The Golden State Warriors are favored to win the NBA Championship.
–The Warriors are expected to be challenged by the Cleveland Cavaliers and San Antonio Spurs.
This is the best time of year to be a sports fan–or a sports bettor. Baseball is rounding into gear, the NHL playoffs are underway and the NBA playoffs get started on Saturday, April 15. The Cleveland Cavaliers will try to defend their NBA Championship though the team they beat last year are expected to get in their way. The Golden State Warriors are a -150 favorite to hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy at the end of the grueling playoff battle between 16 teams. The Cavaliers are second choice at +300 with the San Antonio Spurs the number three betting favorite at +700.
At first glance, the playoffs might look very non-competitive based on the betting odds. That might be the way the public perceives it but ‘sharp’ sports bettors smell opportunity. In particular, they love the Boston Celtics who actually beat Cleveland for the best record in the Eastern Conference but are getting zero respect. The Celtics can be had at anywhere between +1500 and +2000 to win the NBA Championship. There’s several other teams that could also pose a challenge in the East. The Toronto Raptors finished the season at 51-31 tied with Cleveland but are given less respect than the Celtics. I’ve got them at +2500 in the SPORTS BETTING EXPERTS odds to win the NBA Championship but you can shop around and find them at +3000 or higher without much effort.
In other words, it looks like a good year to be a ‘contrarian’ and particularly in the Eastern Conference. That might not be the case out West where the San Antonio Spurs are the only team that finished within 10 games of the Golden State Warriors. There’s definitely some good teams flying under the radar–the Utah Jazz for example who finished with the same 51-31 record that Cleveland and Toronto did. They might be worth a flyer at 50/1 (or higher if you shop around) but it’s hard to see them or any other Western Conference team dispatching the Warriors in a seven game series.
