2017 Emmy Award Odds Comedy Programs

–The 2017 Emmy Awards will be held on September 17, 2017

–Stephen Colbert will host the Emmy Awards broadcast.

–Nominations were announced on July 13, 2017.

The legacy ‘Big 3’ television networks might fare better in the comedy categories than most others. That’s not really saying much–CBS, ABC and NBC have combined for a whopping two nominations in the ‘Best Comedy Series’ category (both going to ABC). They can take some solace in the fact that they just had one in the ‘Best Drama Series’ category where NBC’s “This Is Us” got a nod. There are definitely some nomination shenanigans at play to throw the legacy networks a bone. For example, Alec Baldwin is nominated for ‘Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series’ for his work on ‘Saturday Night Live’. The show received three nominations for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ yet the rest of the nominations received by ‘Saturday Night Live’ came in the ‘Variety Sketch Series’ category. Maybe I’m a conspiracy theorist but it sure looks like a move to boost the number of major award nominations received by the ‘Big 3’. It’ll be interesting to see if that ‘preferential treatment’ continues when the awards are handed out at the Emmy broadcast hosted by Steven Colbert on September 17, 2017
