2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season State Proposition Betting Odds

–The Atlantic Basin Hurricane Season runs from June 1 through November 30.

–Tropical Storm Arlene formed in late April becoming the first named storm of 2017 but quickly dissipated.

–At the time of publication there were no active storm systems being tracked in the Atlantic Basin.

The Atlantic Basin Hurricane Season begins on June 1 and depending on where you live that’s either an interesting bit of trivia or a serious concern. Realistically, it’s more the former than the latter for most of the United States. Based on the SPORTS BETTING EXPERTS analysis there’s only 19 states with a significant risk of experiencing a hurricane. Not much of a surprise that Florida is at the greatest risk of having a hurricane strike. Also at significant risk–Texas, Louisiana, North Carolina and South Carolina. Historically, 40% of all hurricanes that make US landfall strike Florida. 88% of all land falling hurricanes strike Texas and/or Florida.

The Southern Coastal states are the first to come to mind when discussing hurricane risk but the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern Coastline is also at risk. It’s not uncommon for a tropical storm to track just offshore until it gets well above the Mason Dixon Line and then hang a quick left. In fact, with the exception of the Southern Coastal states the next states on the hurricane risk list are Virginia, New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. All in all, nineteen states have experienced a hurricane strike since records were first kept in 1851. Pennsylvania is on the list but it’s the subject of some debate. The only hurricane to hit the Quaker State was in 1898 and there is some questioning that it might have been a severe storm that didn’t reach hurricane status. The facts verifying that it was an actual hurricane may have been more anecdotal than factual.

In our first look at proposition odds for the 2017 Atlantic Basin Hurricane Season we took the ‘big picture’ approach. Now we’re going to get more granular starting with the state level. In our next update, we’ll look at additional tropical storm and hurricane odds for cities and counties along the Atlantic Coast.
